We fixed a bug in campaigns whose gift distribution method is "Use settings page configuration": even when gifts were being distributed manually, the recovery feature added the gift automatically.

Two settings you need to know
- Recovery: "Recover gifts missing from online store orders", found on the settings page under "Automation › Post-order gifts". It automatically adds, after the order, gifts that met the conditions but were not distributed in the cart
- Use settings page configuration: One of the distribution methods for simple gifts. Whether gifts are actually distributed automatically or manually is determined by "Online Store (Theme extension) › Gift campaigns › Automatically add gifts" on the settings page. Enabled means automatic; disabled means manual
What was happening
- Recovery always treated campaigns set to "Use settings page configuration" as automatic distribution
- Even in stores where "Automatically add gifts" was disabled (manual distribution), orders where the customer simply had not clicked the widget button were judged as "missing a gift"
- As a result, the gift component products were added automatically after the order
Scope of impact
- Affected: Stores with recovery enabled, using simple gifts whose distribution method is "Use settings page configuration", and with "Automatically add gifts" disabled
- Impact: Gifts were added automatically to orders that met the conditions but where the customer had not claimed the gift
- Period: From July 14, 2026, when the recovery feature was deployed to production, until September 10, 2026, when this fix was applied
- Not affected: Campaigns whose distribution method is "Automatic" or "Manual", and stores with "Automatically add gifts" enabled
What we fixed
When recovery evaluates a campaign set to "Use settings page configuration", it now refers to the "Automatically add gifts" setting.
