In discount campaigns, a discount can now apply only to products of the purchase type you set, even when a cart mixes one-time purchases and subscriptions. You can also narrow conditions and gift conditions by purchase type.
Key points
- Campaigns set to "One-time purchases only" or "Subscriptions only" now discount products of that purchase type even in a mixed cart. Previously, no discount was applied at all.
- We renamed "Campaign applies to" to "Purchase types to discount", and you now choose from three options.
- We added "Purchase types to include", which narrows the quantity and subtotal in conditions by purchase type.
Before and after
| Purchase types to discount | Before, in a mixed cart | After, in a mixed cart |
|---|---|---|
| One-time purchases only | No discount | Product discount on one-time purchase products, order discount on their subtotal, and shipping discount on one-time purchase shipping |
| Subscriptions only | No discount | Product discount on subscription products and order discount on their subtotal (see the notes below for shipping) |
| All purchase types | Applied to all products | Unchanged |
Products on purchase options without recurring delivery, such as pre-orders, are treated as one-time purchases. Previously, a campaign set to "One-time purchases only" did not apply when a pre-order product was in the cart. Pre-order products are now eligible for the discount.
Where the settings moved
- "Purchase types to discount" moved from "Restrictions" to "Discount › Advanced settings". It is in the same collapsible section as the rounding adjustment setting.
- "Subscription orders to discount" moved to the same place. It is shown only when subscriptions are eligible for the discount.
- "Restrictions" keeps "Combinations of discounts" and "Maximum campaign uses".
Narrowing conditions by purchase type
We added "Advanced settings" to the eligible-product settings, and added "Purchase types to include" (All purchase types / One-time purchases only / Subscriptions only). The existing "Products to exclude" (gifts, sale items, and pre-order products) also moved into this section.
- Available in: discount conditions (quantity and subtotal), gift campaign conditions, and the eligible products of a repeatable gift.
- For example, you can use different purchase types for the condition and the discount, such as "10% off one-time purchase products when customers buy 2 or more subscription products".
- It is not shown for the eligible products of a product discount. Which products are discounted is determined by "Purchase types to discount".
- Storefront display conditions (cart quantity and subtotal) are totaled with the same check.
How to set it up
- Open a campaign from "Discount campaigns".
- Under "Discount › Advanced settings", choose "Purchase types to discount".
- To narrow conditions by purchase type, open "Advanced settings" for the condition's eligible products and choose "Purchase types to include".
- Save the campaign.
For worked examples of product, order, and shipping discounts, see "Purchase types to discount (advanced discount)" in the help center.
Impact on existing settings
- Existing campaigns keep their purchase-type setting. You do not need to recreate them.
- "Purchase types to include" is added as "All purchase types", so condition checks do not change.
- Behavior changes only when a mixed cart, or a cart that includes a pre-order product, reaches a campaign set to "One-time purchases only" or "Subscriptions only". What previously got no discount is now discounted on the eligible products.
Action required
No settings change is required. Follow the steps in "How to set it up" above only if you want to narrow conditions by purchase type.

Things to note when using this feature
- Shipping can be discounted only per delivery. If you choose "Subscriptions only" on a mixed cart, subscription shipping is not discounted on the first order or on later orders.
- If you choose "One-time purchases only" on a mixed cart, the first subscription delivery is grouped with the one-time purchase delivery, so that shipping is discounted too. It does not apply to the second order onward.
- For campaigns that include a shipping discount, the settings screen also shows the above in a banner.
- The first time you use "Purchase types to include", you must allow the "Read purchase options" permission. This permission is used only to read product purchase options.
- Product messages, product card badges, and widgets are not affected by "Purchase types to discount".
